With the 90-minute season finale of The Walking Dead now just a few days away from presumably smashing fans' hearts with Negan's bat, the hype is unreal. Andrew Lincoln, he of expert pronunciations of the name "Carl," only made things worse (better?) in a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly. According to Lincoln, this year's finale just so happens to include some of the greatest writing of all time.
"I read the script and I went, 'This is the greatest entrance ever written,'" Lincoln recalled of the moment he first learned exactly how Negan would crash into the Dead world. As for Jeffrey Dean Morgan's take on the bat-armed villain, Lincoln said he and co-star Norman Reedus (Daryl Dixon) were blown away. However, he admits, they were also a little jealous. "He's just the coolest guy and everybody loves him," Lincoln said. "Jeffrey's such a great guy and I've been a huge admirer of his since he played the Comedian [in Zack Snyder's Watchmen] and everything else he's done."
Though he didn't offer any insight on the greatness of the finale's writing, Reedus also expressed general shock regarding the episode following last week's Daryl-centered travesty. "I can say what you see tonight is exactly what happens," Reedus told Deadlineon Sunday. "That’s definitely blood up against the camera and I'm definitely the one that gets shot." By Reedus' estimations, the Season 6 finale is definitely "the most hardcore finale" in the show's history.
The Walking Dead's apparently great season finale hits televisions April 3. In the meantime, protect (the presumably injured) Daryl Dixon at all costs.
