This is very impressive.

Emulators have been a part of retro gaming for a long time now. Though technically illegal, they let you play the parts of gaming history that wouldn’t be accessible without searching out long out-of-print cartridges and consoles (and also letting you cheat by using save states)

The web-based 3DNES emulator is far more than that though. Created by Vietnamese developer Trần Vũ Trúc, it turns 8-bit Nintendo Entertainment System games into a mixture of 2D and 3D planes. It’s buggy and doesn’t work that well, but watching the compilation video of various games running on it shows how impressive it can work. Classic 2D sidescrollers like Megaman and Contra look fantastic, like a great indie game you’d see on the Playstation Store. It doesn’t work as well on top down games like the original Zelda though.
