The All Def Movie Awards will take place as part of Def Jam’s regular All Def Comedy Live shows, on February 24. Beasts of No Nation, Chi-raq, Concussion, Creed, Dope and Straight Outta Compton are all up for the Best Picture award, and there will also apparently be a ‘black carpet’ for the stars to walk down.

Of course, this is all spinning out of the fact that for the last two years, all the main Oscar acting nominees have been white.  In a statement, Simmons said that the awards “are not the Black Oscars, but they could be. This will be a fun, entertaining and hopefully thought provoking celebration of the uncelebrated.”

“I don't expect a 90-year-old Academy member to see Straight Outta Compton or vote for it. I'm more concerned that in 2016 there continues to be a stunning lack of diversity in the studios, in the green light process, in the decisions of what films and television series get made and what actors get chosen. This needs to be addressed institutionally.”

As well as your standard acting and directing awards, there will also be gongs for “Best Bad Muh Fucka”, “Best Helpful White Person” and “Best Black Survivor in a Movie." Only time will tell if the All Def Movie Awards will become a staple of the awards season. But we’re pretty sure this will be one awards ceremony where Eddie Reymayne doesn’t win anything, and for that we’re definitely thankful.
