If you're a Gilmore Girls fan, then you already know Stars Hollow is coming back to your screen, thanks to a Netflix revival, and you're already giddy as hell about it. (YOU KNOW I CERTAINLY AM.) After rumors swirling about the reboot for months, Netflix finally confirmed last Friday that the beloved series (which ran from 2000–2007 on WB) will be getting four new 90-minute long episodes on the burgeoning streaming site. The main Gilmore Girls Lorelai and Rory (Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel) are of course back, along with other main GG faces like Luke (Scott Patterson), Lane (Keiko Agena), Kirk (Sean Gunn), and Emily (Kelly Bishop). Unfortunately Ed Herrmann, who played Rory's grandfather Richard, passed away early last year.
After the confirmation, Lauren Graham even excitedly tweeted this selfie:

But hold up... One big name was missing from that lineup. Where is Melissa McCarthy? fans wondered. Before becoming the comedy megastar she is now (Bridesmaids, Spy, and the upcoming Ghostbusters), McCarthy played Lorelai's best friend and inn co-owner Sookie St. James and has been on every season. It seems like a huge oversight to leave her out, but she's arguably the most famous person from the cast and probably has too much on her plate. So was it scheduling issues? Money disagreements? Today, McCarthy stated on Twitter that she was not even invited to come back to Stars Hollow:

Huh? Ouch. Why?
Weirdly, in a TV Line interview with show creator Amy Sherman-Palladino yesterday, she said she does want McCarthy on, but that she is "really f—ing busy." She went on to say that Sookie's absence would be explained but that she would love to have her come back to the show, even as a cameo.
"But the thing I have said [to her team] is, ‘Look, if Melissa is available and has an afternoon free, I’ll write her a scene. Melissa was one of us. If she has a spare moment to run over [to the set] — even if for just a cameo — we would be totally game. And if it’s a last-minute thing, I would write her in and we would figure it out. That’s the way we left it."
Did they get their signals mixed up? Maybe if Melissa McCarthy was simply ASKED, she would come back and Gilmore Girls would be all the more better for it. Make it happen!
