Male Birth Control Could Be Simple as Flipping a Switch on Your Balls

What if avoiding pregnancy was as simple as flipping a switch on your testicles? That's what a German company is shooting for.

Ever wished you could simply switch off your sperm to avoid pregnancy? Ever dreamed of having bionic balls? The German inventor Clemens Bimek wants that life for you, and he's working to make it happen.

Bimek has created a device called the Bimek SLV, basically a small switch that could be surgically implanted in your scrotum to allow you to flip your fertility on and off by feeling and flipping said switch through your ball skin.

Bimek's site says the surgery would only take 30 minutes and could be done under local anesthesia.

Bimek claims the device prevents the release of sperm in a way that's similar to the way that a vasectomy works, except unlike a vasectomy, it's easily reversed without another surgery if you decide you want to get someone preggers.

Of course, such a device is still a long way from reaching your bollocks. Although Mashable reports that Bimek had the device implanted in himself way back in 2009, it still needs to go through the lengthy process of medical trials and FDA approval before it could be used in the U.S.

Also, the switch doesn't prevent sexually transmitted diseases, so don't start throwing all your condoms in the trash just yet.
