Although we still have a couple of months until the sixth season of Game of Thrones returns on HBO, the creator of the book series, George R.R. Martin, revealed some news that diehard fans won't be too happy about.

For some time there has been some apprehension that Martin would not be able to complete the sixth book in his series, the Winds of Winter, in time for the sixth season of the ever popular TV series. Yesterday on his blog Martin revealed, "You wanted an update. Here's the update. You won't like it." The author went on to say that the Winds of Winter is far from being done. He still has hundreds of pages and loads of characters to write about.

While he's been clear about being bad with deadlines in the past, and that it is nobody's fault but his own, Martin addressed the weird situation not having the book done in time for the season six premiere—slated for sometime April—puts fans in.

"I can't think of any other instance where the movie or TV show came out as the source material was still being written. So when you ask me, 'will the show spoil the books,' all I can do is say, 'yes and no,' and mumble once again about the butterfly effect," Martin cryptically wrote. "Some of the 'spoilers' you may encounter in season six may not be spoilers at all... because the show and the books have diverged, and will continue to do so."
