Will Ferrell opened Saturday Night Live last night playing our favorite former president of the United States. Channeling George W. Bush, Ferrell announced (as Bush) that he would be running for president—again. Sure, it's not exactly legal, but by the time he's done destroying the other GOP candidates, having him as president ends up making some sort of sick sense.
"The field of Republicans out there is so messed up, I figure it makes you miss me, doesn't it?"
He then goes on to attack Ben Carson, and wonders how the Republican candidate would do in country's like China and Azerbaijan (pay attention to his pronunciation here) considering Carson is so soft spoken. "You have to talk loudly so they will understand," Ferrell-Bush says.
Later on he takes a simple jab at Carly Fiorina, saying, "She's not qualified in any way to be president. In many ways, she reminds me of me." Ha.
Then, of course, there's Donald Trump. While Trump didn't show (neither did the version of him played by Taran Killam), he nonsensically compared the candidate's efforts to keep Muslims out of the country to his own efforts to keep Leprechauns out.
But it was in his closing remarks that we witnessed something truly remarkable. Ferrell-Bush offered up a beautiful simile, one that should put down any idea that he's not a good public speaker.
"Running a government is kind of like driving a school bus. You don't want a crazy person driving that bus," he starts. "You want a simple, underachieving, not very educated by reliable guy behind the wheel. Someone with a steady hand who will be on time and get into one or two but no more than four accidents a year."
There you have it. Bush 2016.
