As the Marvel Universe expands on both the big and small screens so to does the their ever growing roster of superheroes and it’s been announced that Marvel and Netflix have found their showrunner for their next TV project, Iron Fist.

Scott Buck who is most notable for his work on Dexter, where he served as an executive producer (and co-executive producer), has been announced as the showrunner for the upcoming Iron Fist TV show. Buck has also worked as a writer and producer on critically acclaimed shows such as Six Feet Under, Rome and  The Oblong – an animated series starring Will Ferrell. His diverse portfolio makes him the ideal pick for taking on Marvel’s resident kung-fu master.

Whilst the cinematic universe focuses on huge scale events, their Netflix counterparts are more grounded and focuses heavily on Marvel's street-level heroes, as shown in the previous two shows Daredevil and Jessica Jones (which was released this year).

For those of you who are unfamiliar with the Iron Fist character (aka Danny Rand) here’s Marvel’s official synopsis for the series:

"Returning to New York City after being missing for years, Daniel Rand fights against the criminal element corrupting New York City with his incredible kung-fu mastery and ability to summon the awesome power of the fiery Iron Fist."

This is of course all building up to The Defenders project involving; Daredevil, Iron Fist, Jessica Jones and Luke Cage – who is currently filming his own Netflix series after making his debut in Jessica Jones. Whether The Defenders will be another Netflix Original or converted to the big screen remains to be seen.

Additionally there is no word on who will be playing Iron Fist yet but with the announcement of Scott Buck as the showrunner you can most likely expect to hear something soon.
