UPDATE 12:48 p.m.:

Authorities have now confirmed that a pipe bomb was left at the scene, in addition to updating the number of those injured to "up to 21." 12 more pipe bombs and more than 4,500 rounds of ammunition were discovered by authorities upon searching a California home, the AP reports. The shooters are also now believed to have fired "65 to 75 rounds." Four of the guns used during the shooting were reportedly "legally purchased." The black SUV, according to police, was a rental.

UPDATE 12/3/15:

The two suspects have now both been identified as a 27-year-old woman by the name of Tashfeen Malik and, as previously reported, 28-year-old male Syed Farook. The two were married and reportedly had a child together earlier this year, according to the Associated Press.

UPDATE 10:20 p.m. ET:

Authorities have released the name of one suspect in the attack and NBC News is reporting that his name is Syed Farook. A man by that name is listed as a resident of the address that police tracked the SUV from the shootout to, the report says.

A man who identified himself as Farook's father told the New York Daily News that Farook worked as a health inspector for the county and was married with a child. He also said he was estranged from Farook, who was upset about his parents' divorce.

“He was very religious. He would go to work, come back, go to pray, come back. He’s Muslim,” the man told the Daily News.

UPDATE 8:39 p.m. ET:

The third suspect has been detained. Authorities say the suspect may not be involved with the shooting. The two suspects dead at the scene have been identified as one male and one female. They were wearing "assault-style clothing" and were armed with assault rifles, handguns according to Chief Jarrod Burguan.

UPDATE 6:26 p.m. ET:

A police pursuit of the suspects in a vehicle has reportedly resulted in two of the three suspects shot dead, with his body seen lying in the street. Another suspect's body was pulled from the dark SUV. A third suspect who fired back at police and fled the scene is thought to be in a building somewhere in the neighborhood where the chase ended.

See original story below.

An active shooter situation has been reported and confirmed by local authorities in San Bernardino, California. As many as 20 people have been shot, according to the Los Angeles Times. The shooting reportedly took place at Inland Regional Center, a facility for people with developmental disabilities. A banquet for "county personnel" was being held during the time of the shooting, KABC reports. President and CEO of the Inland Regional Center Marybeth Field confirmed the shooting happened in a "conference area" where a banquet was being held by the San Bernardino County Department of Public Health. Three suspects are believed to have "entered and started shooting" before leaving in a black SUV, with KABC reporting the vehicle was "possibly a GMC Yukon." Nearby courts and other buildings have been placed on lockdown, including schools.

During a press conference, Chief Jarrod Burguan confirmed that "up to three" shooters shot and killed 14 people and injured at least 14 others. That number has since increased to 17 injured. "These were people that came prepared to do what they did," Burguan told reporters, "as if they were on a mission." Police are urging people to "avoid the area" of Orange Show Road and Waterman Avenue and to remain alert. "At minimum we have a domestic terrorism incident that occurred here," Burguan told reporters, adding that the suspects used "long guns" and not handguns. Additional details regarding the attackers' weapons have not been released.

Though details regarding the shooting were not immediately known, photos across social media showed heavily armed police forces surrounding a neighborhood in San Bernardino. A father revealed to KABC that his daughter was inside the building when the shooting occurred, sharing a text message exchange in which she reportedly said "10 to 20 people" were shot, though these numbers have not been confirmed.

"We are not only using our SWAT team, but using SWAT teams from other jurisdictions to clear the facility," San Bernardino Police Lt. Richard Lawhead told KNBC during an interview. "As far as we know it’s confined to the Inland Regional Center." Loma Linda University Medical Centerhas entered "disaster mode," expecting a large influx of patients. At least six patients are being treated at Arrowhead Regional Medical Center, KABC reports. Local news outlets also captured images of people exiting an unidentified building, some with their hands up:

The local sheriff's office estimates "as many as three" total suspects and "multiple victims," according to the Washington Post. Fox News is also reporting that a "suspicious device" was discovered inside a building where one of the suspects was reportedly seen with "a ski mask and bulletproof vest." Though local authorities have not confirmed the total number or description of the suspects, Fox 11says that police are searching for "three white males dressed in military gear." Authorities did not confirm these reports during the first press conference, though additional updates are expected "on the hour" for the duration of the active shooter incident.

The FBI is also assisting in the response, though local authorities will take the lead. The black SUV that was allegedly seen exiting the scene of the shooting was later claimed to have been found after reportedly being abandoned, according to a report from KTTV Fox 11's Araksya Karapetyan. This report has also not been confirmed by law enforcement.

Shortly after news of the apparent mass shooting event broke, President Obama was reportedly briefed by his Homeland Security advisor before eventually giving a statement to CBS News. "We have a pattern now of mass shootings in this country that has no parallel anywhere else in the world," Obama said. "Our hearts go out to the victims and the families." Obama also called for greater and more unified gun control reform, citing the increasing prevalence of this type of tragedy:
