Looks like Sarah Connor's worst nightmare is about to come true as researchers have predicted half of the jobs in Japan could be done by robots in 2035.

According to the Nomura Research Institute (NRI) and lead researcher Yumi Wakao, within the next 20 years nearly half of all the jobs in Japan could be performed by robots. The NRI, who also worked alongside Oxford University's Professor Michael Osbourne, examined more than 600 jobs and found "up to 49 percent of jobs could be replaced by computer systems", according to Wakao.

According to engadget:

The team looked at how likely each position could be automated, based on the degree of creativity required. That means jobs like operating helpdesks, delivering goods or agricultural labor are all highly susceptible to computerization while writing, teaching and doing whatever it is that Shingy does probably aren't being taken over by computers any time soon.

That fact that machines haven't yet taken over our positions at Complex comes as a huge of relief; the job market's already tough without some soulless machines coming in and doing a much better job than us! Wakao does well to remind us that "this is only a hypothetical technical calculation. It doesn't take into account social factors."

To be honest, considering the mind-boggling tech that came out of Land Of The Rising Sun, we won't be surprised if we're one day put out to pasture due to their crazy contraptions. We're just waiting for a fully realised battle mech suit so we can fully achieve our goal of being a Gundam pilot.
