Woman Leaps from Lyft Car Because She Thought She Was Being Kidnapped

It was all a misunderstanding.

That joke about jumping from a moving vehicle if you feel like you’re in danger when threatened sounds simple enough, but it’s actually pretty dangerous. One San Francisco woman did such a thing and ended up breaking her ankle.

CBS San Francisco reports that a woman leapt from her Lyft ride on Thursday night because she thought she was being kidnapped by her driver. He made a turn in what she believed to be the wrong direction and grew concerned when he didn’t respond to her inquiries. As it turns out, the driver was hearing-impaired and this was all a big misunderstanding.

San Francisco police spokesman Officer Albie Esparza says officials contacted the driver who revealed what actually happened. The woman luckily made it out with the ankle injury alone (and a possible bruised ego).
