Trying to figure out where to live in London? Don’t look at the normal things people use, like average house prices, or transport links, or crime statistics. No, you want to know how many chicken shops are nearby.
That’s what Sam Floy of Tutorfair has done. He has created heat maps of the locations of chicken shops (being an indicator of a dilapidated area) and trendy coffee shops (being an indicator of an up-and-coming area). He then cross-referenced this with average house prices.
Here’s where the chicken shops are.
And the coffee shops.
This is where we’re going to have to disagree with Sam.
Don’t you want to live near a chicken shop? Surely being able to pick up a junior spesh without having to walk more than a few minutes is more important than getting a macchiato?
Where does the research say is the best place to live? Peckham.
Because it has lots of coffee shops.
Not many chicken shops.
And relatively low house prices.
We can accept that. There’s a Morley’s on Queen’s Road.
There research also recommends Southwark, Woolwich, Isle of Dogs, Colliers Wood, and Willesden Junction. Sam’s also looking to do the same for £1 stores: bicycle repair shops, fluctuations in the street price of coriander, and the density of shops selling quinoa. See the full thing here.
