After spending nearly three months in custody since his initial arrest, a Rhode Island man is now pleading guilty to manufacturingmethamphetamine in the trunk of his car while driving. 40-year-old Kevin Lewis entered his plea on Tuesday in Glocester, according to the United States Attorney's office. Upon being pulled over while cruising around Glocester, local authorities reportedly smelled acetone, a typical ingredient used in the methamphetamine production process. After searching his vehicle, they discovered "a batch of meth" currently in production in the trunk of the vehicle, according to the Associated Press.

The past few years have been noticeably stacked for the meth industry, with 2012 statistics from the National Institute on Drug Abuse showing that approximately 1.2 million had used methamphetamine in some capacity that year alone:

While national trends are showing declines, methamphetamine abuse continues to exhibit regional variability. The strongest effects are felt in the West and parts of the Midwest, according to the National Institute on Drug Abuse’s (NIDA’s) Community Epidemiology Work Group (CEWG), a network of researchers that provides information about the nature and patterns of drug abuse across the United States. For example, in the first half of 2012, methamphetamine ranked first in drugrelated treatment admissions in Hawaii and San Diego, second in San Francisco, and third in Denver and Phoenix.

Don't do meth, but especially don't attempt to manufacture it while driving around Rhode Island.
