Though all eyes are currently affixed to the increasingly contentious streaming wars between Apple Music and The Others (re: Spotify, et al), there's another leg of the battle quickly approaching boiling level — Netflix v. The Others (re: Amazon Prime, Hulu, et al).
Hulu achieved quite the coup last month with the glorious $180 million arrival of Seinfeld, the result of a purportedly heated bidding war. The episodes look better than ever, finally returned to their proper speed and length after years of (very profitable) syndication. However, one small hurdle for the Netflix-spoiled among us is an inherent aversion to ads of all shapes, sizes, and creeds. Surely aware of this aversion, Hulu might finally be answering the call for an ad-free option — for an additional charge.
The proposed ad-free option — a rumored eventuality for quite some time now — will reportedly cost between $12-$14 per month, according to Variety. However, Hulu is unlikely to ever fully abandon their ad-centered format due to its widespread industry support — so stop worrying and learn to love the ads.
