Taking a page or three out of the Up playbook, Daniel Boria fastened his $20 lawn chair (luxury, am I right?) to 120 balloons filled with $12,000 worth of helium. With a handmade sign for his cleaning products business in tow, Boria quickly took flight over Calgary — and just as quickly regretted every decision even remotely related to the doomed stunt. Speaking with CBC News, Boria detailed his experience:
"At one point I was looking up at the balloons, they were popping, the chair was shaking and I was looking down at my feet dangling through the clouds at a 747 flight taking off and a few landing. It was incredible. It was the most surreal experience you can ever imagine. I was just by myself on a $20 lawn chair up in the sky above the clouds."
However, as the stunt progressed — the cost of a traditional billboard quickly seemed like the easier choice. Boria, a skydiver, had planned to parachute himself into the Calgary Stampede. Weather prevented this, rendering Boria's landing less-than-desirable. Boria was briefly detained and charged with "one count of mischief causing danger to life," according to CBC News.
