What is this shit? MTV tells us it's the new mask for its Scream reboot series, but it looks like an abomination of the iconic image burned into the minds of '90s kids everywhere. This is worse than the knockoffs kids would wear on Halloween when they were way to young to have watched the movies. Granted, we're not getting the full, face-on look. But from this angle it looks like a Jabawaki mask with a surprised mouth.
Original director and series executive producer Wes Craven lied, calling the mask "cool and scary." He's correct in saying it'll take the franchise in a new direction, though that doesn't necessarily mean a better one. At least the trailer looks good, though.
Look out for the Scream premiere June 30.
