NBC's 'Hannibal' Has Been Canceled After Three Seasons

The show's devoted cult following simply wasn't enough to save the revered drama from eventual demise.

After three highly regarded though generally underwatched seasons, NBC has canceled Hannibal. In a statement, series creator Bryan Fuller refrained from taking understandable jabs at NBC — even leaving open the possibility of the show finding a new home in the future.

From BuzzFeed:

“NBC has allowed us to craft a television series that no other broadcast network would have dared, and kept us on the air for three seasons despite Cancellation Bear Chow ratings and images that would have shredded the eyeballs of lesser Standards & Practices enforcers. Jen Salke and her team have been fantastic partners and creatively supportive beyond measure. Hannibal is finishing his last course at NBC’s table this summer, but a hungry cannibal can always dine again. And personally, I look forward to my next meal with NBC.”

The impending cancelation will reportedly not interfere with the currently-in-progress third season, which — as evidenced by Fuller's willingness to find a new home — may or may not be the final nail in the Hannibal coffin. In fact, the future is already looking a little brighter:
