A dean at the University of Virginia has filed a lawsuit against Rolling Stone magazine following the publication's story about a rape which took place on the school's campus.

According to the Associated Press, Associate Dean Nicole Eramo filed the defamation lawsuit, which seeks over $7.5 million, today. In addition, a USA Today reports alleges that Eramo claims Rolling Stone painted her as the "chief villain" in its since-refuted story:

Dean Nicole Eramo claims in the lawsuit filed in Charlottesville, Va., that the defendant's purpose in publishing the article was to weave a narrative that depicted the University of Virginia as an institution that is indifferent to rape on campus, and more concerned with protecting its reputation than with assisting victims of sexual assault.

Last fall, Rolling Stone published a piece about a rape said to have taken place at the university's Pi Kappa Alpha house in 2012. Aside from the report being invalidated, police in Charlottesville said they were unable to confirm that an assault occurred due to insufficient evidence
