HBO had its heroin series in Baltimore, AMC had its meth series in Albuquerque and now FX will have its cocaine series set in Los Angeles.

John Singleton, the director of Boys n the Hood, Shaft, Baby Boy and 2 Fast 2 Furious, originally created the series Snowfall, about the rise of the crack epidemic in 1980s L.A., for Showtime, but the pilot has now been picked up by FX.

From Deadline:

With the drug storm about to come, Snowfall focuses on a trio of main characters – ambitious dealer Franklin Saint, ex-Mexican wrestler and now gangster Gustavo Zapata and prodigal son Logan Miller.

“I have always been fascinated with that volatile moment in time before crack changed everything,” Singleton said. “It’s a tense, insane and sexy era that touched every aspect of our culture."

Singleton hasn't directed a feature film since 2011's Abduction, a modest action hit starring Taylor Lautner. Singleton announced that he'd dropped out of the long-awaited Tupac biopic in April via Instagram.
