Robert Downey Jr. taught Channel 4 News' Krishnan Guru-Murthy a lesson about interviewing: never go full Diane Sawyer. Guru-Murthy inches his way toward Sawyer territory at around the 5:35 mark, and we can already see Downey Jr. begin to feel uncomfortable. He points out that the interviewer's foot is starting to jump, apparently unaware of (or trying to distract from) his own fidgeting and heavy breathing. Eventually, Guru-Murthy stumbles his way to asking Downey Jr. about his history of drug alcohol abuse, and that's when RDJ is done. He offers a curt "bye" before dipping out.
"It's just getting a little Diane Sawyer-y," he says.
This isn't the first time Guru-Murthy has gotten under a celebrity's skin. Back in 2013 he pissed off Quentin Tarantino by asking why he's sure there isn't a link between enjoying violent films and acting violently. Tarantino refused to answer the question because he'd done so previously on numerous occasions. "I'm shutting your butt down," he said. "This is a commercial for my movie."
If only everyone would be as upfront about the purpose of these interviews.
