Over 5 Tons of Cocaine Seized from Ship by Colombian Navy

The navy says this is the largest cocaine seizure made in the area in two years.

The Colombian navy announced yesterday that it had retrieved over five tons of cocaine from a ship in the Pacific region.

The Associated Press reports that the seizure was made aboard a merchant's ship located roughly 190 miles from the port of Tumaco, which is situated in the province of Narino. According to the Associated Press, the navy released a statement yesterday saying that 5.2-ton cocaine take was the largest seizure of its kind made in the area in two years.

Fourteen crew members aboard the ship were taken into custody, and the Colombian navy adds that the DEA also played a role in this bust.
