Even politicians are bored by politics.

Catching a glimpse of C-SPAN is like looking into the eyes of Medusa. One little glance and you become paralyzed with boredom. So I can't even fathom what the pain is like to sit through entire proceedings. I like to imagine the papers in front of politicians look like this by the end of the day. There's just no way you could sit through a filibuster or just three seconds of a discussion on mineral rights without an escape.

Iowa state Rep. Ross Paustian was caught reading a book called Sex After Sixty during a House debate on collective bargaining rights for teachers. In a photo posted to Twitter we see Paustian with a hint of intrigue on his face while reclined in his seat with the titillating book at eye level. The 59-year-old could no doubt learn something from the self-help manual.

Since the photo's gone viral Paustian has come out to deny the book is his. He says it was handed to him by his boy, Rep. Robert Bacon, who had received the book as a gag gift for his 60th birthday. "I knew what was going on," Paustian told KCRG. "I knew how we were going to vote on amendments. So it wasn't like I wasn't paying attention to what was going on."

But what did he learn from the book? He should share the knowledge with his constituents.
