Last month, we got a look at some of the returning characters for the tenth installment of the Mortal Kombat series, Mortal Kombat X (which will be released on April 14, 2015, for the Xbox One, PS4, Xbox 360, PS3, and Windows PC). While it's dope to see guys like Goro coming back to the fold, this new look at the game and it's varying modes really push the envelope for what Mortal Kombat fans would want in a next gen game.

One of the biggest features in Mortal Kombat X is the idea of "Factions," in which gamers can pick one of five groups to be a part of and fight for. From what the creators explained, there will be weekly campaigns (or Faction Wars) where no matter which of the modes you fight in—be it story mode, different Living Tower options, or all-around player vs. player fighting—any achievements will be factored into your Faction's overall progress (as well as your individual progress). At the end of that week, the Faction with the most points wins; we have a feeling the level of sh*t talking from faction to faction will be at an all-time high.

For those who thought fighting games like Mortal Kombat were competitive, this added level of team play could help elevate the competition within Mortal Kombat X.
