The fourth episode of True Detective gave us The Shot. The six-minute tracking shot capturing the duration of a housing project robbery was an instantly iconic moment, proving the show should be hailed as much for its cinematography as its storytelling. In a nod to director Cary Joji Fukunaga It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia is taking on its own logistical nightmare inspired by True Detective. Tonight's episode will feature its own seven-minute tracking shot, according to Glenn Howerton.

From KTTV:

True Detective followed Matthew McConaughey in and out of frenzied danger for six seamless minutes. The FXX sitcom spends an uninterrupted seven-plus minutes on a scene that’s equally manic but minus the gunplay: It involves a desperate bid to save Paddy’s pub from flunking a health inspection.

Glenn Howerton, who plays Dennis and is an executive producer of the comedy about a group of loser pals, said they were “pretty inspired” by the bravado of True Detective and found an episode that’s served by the approach.

Watch True Detective's scene right here and look out for It's Always Sunny's take on it tonight at 10 ET.
