"The Hobbit" Rules the Weekend Box Office (Duh)

Followed by "Night at the Museum."

1.

Like we predicted last weekend, The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies topped the box office last night. It made over $16 million last night, which brings its cumulative total to $50 million already. Numbers two and three were Night at the Museum and Annie, which made $5.6 million and $5.3 million, respectively.

Warner Bros. made the somewhat unusual decision to release The Hobbit on Wednesday instead of Thursday and Friday. Sony also had plans to release Annie on Christmas, but bumped it up to the 19th to foster "word of mouth" from kids out of school for the holidays. The Hobbit is expected to hit at least $80 million by the end of the weekend from just the U.S. and Canada.
