After hosting Saturday Night Live, Amy Adams stayed in New York so that she could appear on the Today Show on Monday morning to do a quick four minute interview. “How nice of her,” you’re probably thinking.

You know who didn’t care? The Today Show.

Adams’ appearance on the show was canceled over her reluctance—or depending on who you want to believe, outright refusal—to discuss the Sony hacks. Adams was completely unaffected by the hacks, and given her limited timeframe was more interested in promoting her new movie Big Eyes rather than discussing a situation that didn’t mean much to her.

Team Adams says that the actress told producers that she “would prefer to avoid the subject” given her relative lack of personal investment. Today, however, has issued a statement saying that “As a news program, the Today show doesn’t allow guests to dictate restrictions on interviews. In this case, after hours of discussion we felt uncomfortable with the demands being made and we determined the best course of action for all parties involved was to cancel the interview.”

Did Today seriously say they’re a news show? Is North Korea somehow responsible for this? Does anybody really care? These are the important questions we now need to be asking.
