Adam Sandler has always been an innovator. After all, he’s the one who took cross-dressing to the next level with his transcendently ridiculous Jack and Jill performance. And now, via his Happy Madison production company, he’s reviving Joe Dirt via online distribution.

The sequel—which Sandler just announced as Joe Dirt II: Beautiful Loser in an announcement on his Facebook page—will begin shooting this month and will be released exclusive online via Sony’s Crackle sometime next year. Sandler is clearly committed to the whole online distribution model, working on this project just over a month after signing a four-movie deal with Netflix.

David Spade is pretty fired up to start filming, saying that “I’m beyond stoked that Joe Dirt will finally hit the screens again on Crackle. I’ve been sleeping in this wig for years and it will be nice to wear it in the daytime again.”

Hopefully, Kid Rock was available to reprise his role in the sequel too.
