Thanks a lot, McDonald’s. Now you’re making even our inanimate objects fatter.

Humanetics—the largest manufacturer of crash test dummies in the world—has had to dramatically increase the weight of their dummy in order to keep up with America’s weight gain. They now are manufacturing one model that tips the scales at 273 pounds, which is about average for an obese American male.

This change could help save lives. Obesity has been linked to a much higher fatality rate in car crashes, and with 40 percent of the American population fitting the definition of “obese,” that’s a lot of people who have been put at risk.

The company is also working on an obese female model, as well as an elderly one. Maybe now we’re in for some sort of obese reboot of the incredible crash dummies?
