This week, both Toni Braxton and Jill Scott shared a meme that claimed Black Friday sales are based on a tradition of slave traders selling African slaves at a discount rate to prepare for the winter. It's about as authentic a story as Kim Kardashian is modest. The response was the hashtag #hotephistory where users remixed Black history facts in the spirit of the aforementioned gullible R&B and soul singers. It provided lots of laughs for a week that offered very few in light of Darren Wilson not being indicted for the killing of the unarmed Michael Brown. So there's that, plus reminders to Bill Cosby not to try to go out like Joe Paterno along with shots at cable news court jesters and other fuckery. Happy Holidays. Rest in peace, Michael Brown.
