Can’t you just totally picture Tom Hanks sitting at his typewriter, sipping some herbal tea, wearing classic old man reading glasses, and knocking out a classic short story?
Well, if you didn’t before, you can start dreaming now. Hanks has published his first story for The New Yorker, a silly little tale called “Alan Bean Plus Four” that will make its print debut a week from today. You can read the story online right here, or if you’re more of an audio person you can listen to Hanks read it here.
Normally these sorts of celebrity projects are incredibly self-indulgent and off-putting, but this piece is actually pretty well done. Oh, Hanks.
