James Cameron, the guy who created and directed two awesome Terminator films, thus setting up fans for decades of disappointment after that, didn't want to be involved in making the upcoming Terminator: Genisys.
He did, however, have a hand in making sure that a 67-year-old Arnold Schwarzenegger could return to the role of the T-800 killing machine, and explaining why it is now a wrinkly killing machine.
Speaking to Deadline at a Los Angeles event this week to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the original Terminator, Cameron explained:
“I wasn’t interested in producing it or working on it actively, but I did want to put in a good word for Arnold. I pointed out that the outer covering (of the Terminator) was actually not synthetic, that it was organic and therefore could age. You could theoretically have a Terminator that was sent back in time, missed his target, and ended up just kind of living on in society. Because he is a learning computer and has a brain as a central processor he could actually become more human as he went along without getting discovered.”
Which sounds sort of like how Arnie explained it a while back, except for the living on in society part.
So what has the T-800 been doing all these years that he's been kicking it in the past? Learning to love? It better not be learning to love.
