While you always kind of wondered, now you know: those scenes on Mad Men where the actors look kind of drunk? Well, they actually may have been.
Speaking with Vulture at the show's induction into the Broadcasting & Cable Hall of Fame last night, series creator Matthew Weiner revealed that not every take with alcohol is actually fake. Sometimes, Jon Hamm et al. go with the "method" approach:
“They can't drink that and act. I don't want to ruin the show for you. I mean. they can [drink alcohol]. I'm not saying that no one's ever done a scene drunk on Mad Men. I will not say that, but most of the time, what you're looking at, what we provide for them, is water.”
While Weiner didn't reveal any specific scenes in particular, there is certainly no shortage of possibilities. Guess that's sort of what happens when at least one character on your show is drunk every single episode.
