Fox Is Developing a Show Based on Former NBA Player Baron Davis

Fox is developing a comedy series based on and produced by former NBA player Baron Davis.

Baron Davis has been without a team since 2012, but a new TV show might be able to fill the void in his life. Fox is developing a comedy series loosely based on the former NBA player and produced by Davis and New Girl's Jake Johnson. The half-hour show will focus on a kid from South Central LA who finds himself in a different world when he's offered a scholarship for a prestigious school.

It's too bad the show will be loosely based on Davis' childhood rather than his NBA career. The latter is full of comedy gold, although much of it comes at the expense of Baron. Potential episodes could include gems like:

  • The U.S. men's basketball team finishing sixth at the 2002 FIBA World Championships

  • Donald Sterling, who owned the team when Davis played for the Clippers, heckling his own player during games because of his weight

  • More references to Davis' conditioning problems

  • The fact that he still hasn't retired

Jokes aside, Davis has legitimate comedic talent. He was the original Clippers funny man before Blake Griffin came along. Right now Fox has only committed to paying for a script, so it's not clear if the show will ever make it to air. We definitely wouldn't bet against it, though.
