American Horror Story is no stranger to controversy, but we're pretty sure creator Ryan Murphy isn't too worried about this one. Professional clown club Clowns of America International is pissed about the negative depiction of clowns on American Horror Story: Freak Show. To be fair, Murphy did say he and the writers set out to create the scariest clown ever in John Carroll Lynch's Twisty the Clown.

We're pretty sure they succeeded, and Clowns of America International apparently is too. "We do not support in any way, shape or form any medium that sensationalizes or adds to coulrophobia or 'clown fear,'" club president Glenn Kohlberger, a.k.a. Clyde D. Scope said. As the Hollywood Reporter points out, AHS is hardly the first to feature a murderous clown. We're all familiar with Batman villain the Joker (who debuted in 1940), the clown doll in Poltergeist (1982) and It (1990). Oh, and hey, not to mention actual clown serial killer John Wayne Gacy.

So, sorry Clyde D. Scope, clowns are legitimately scary and there's nothing you can do about it—might we suggest watching what is shaping up to be AHS' best season yet? You might just be entertained.
