Premiering a TV movie on a national holiday can be a dubious decision, and it looks like it backfired for Saved by the Bell: The Unauthorized Story.
Zack Morris and Co. struggled in the ratings, pulling in just 1.6 million total viewers and failing to match the social media buzz it had been receiving. The comically bad acting and preposterous plot—while seemingly virtuous to many—apparently failed to pull in the attention this nostalgia-driven movie deserved. The 9 p.m. slot on Lifetime probably didn’t help much either.
Could it be that Zack, Slater, Kelly, Jessie, Screech, and Lisa are no longer a bankable commercial entity? Say it ain’t so.
