And that’s why you should read those annoying service agreements.

As part of an experiment to see how susceptible people may be to language within these legally-binding contracts, security company F-Secure (in conjunction with Europol) decided to have a little fun with a London Wi-Fi hotspot. In addition to the normal language in the terms of service, they also dropped in this gem:

“The recipient agrees to assign their first born child to us for the duration of eternity.”

And, wouldn’t you know it? Six people signed up.

The company is not totally evil, however, and has no designs on keeping the children; “We have yet to enforce our rights under the terms and conditions,” the company said in their report. “But, as this is an experiment, we will be returning the children to their parents.”

Controversial opinion: maybe they should keep them, at least for a little while. Clearly these kids’ parents aren’t the brightest, or at the very least aren’t especially observant. It’s legitimate to raise questions about the kids’ welfare given that the people raising them already accidentally gave them away once. What's to say they won't do it again in exchange for a donut or something?
