It appears that there is no scandal too horrible for Hollywood to turn it into a profit-generating movie.
Al Pacino will star as Joe Paterno in a Brian De Palma-directed film entitled Happy Valley, which will detail all the horrible things defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky did at Penn State under the questionable supervision of Paterno. John Carroll Lynch—who menaced in the 2007 film Zodiac—will play Sandusky, the defensive coordinator for the football team who in 2012 was convicted of 45 different charges of sexually abusing young boys.
The movie will be based on the book Paterno by Joe Posnanski, and was adapted for the screen by American History X scribe Dave McKenna. The question remains, though: why?
It seems cruel to the victims of Sandusky’s abuse to thrust their ordeal back into the limelight after they were forced to relive it so publicly, but maybe that’s just the nature of the business.
