The People’s Climate March has been taking place since yesterday in New York City, and has largely gone off very peacefully despite there being a reported 300,000-plus demonstrators on hand. Celebrities like Leonardo DiCaprio, Al Gore, and Jane Goodall have taken part, as have politicians like New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio and UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon.

However, as protestors have moved from Battery Park towards Wall Street today to symbolically hold corporations accountable for their part in climate change, the tone of the crowd has gotten a bit less friendly, and arrests are starting to be made. Police have been watching the sit-in on Wall Street with minimal interference, but around 1:30 this afternoon they began handcuffing protesters:

(Someone should arrest him for that mullet and sideburns combo. Heyo!)

We’ll bring you more updates as we have them. With world leaders scheduled to meet at the United Nations tomorrow to discuss global climate issues, it’s unlikely we’ve heard the last of these protests.
