Could It Be? Is Al Pacino Back?

Al Pacino is a perfect fit as a mentally unstable, has-been actor in the first trailer for "The Humbling."

Just when it seemed like Al Pacino had given up playing roles that would earn him anything but critical derision, he goes and does something like The Humbling…and totally redeems himself.

Directed by frequent Pacino collaborator Barry Levinson (Wag the Dog, Good Morning, Vietnam) and based on a novel of the same name by Phillip Roth, The Humbling follows a washed-up actor played by Pacino who suffers a mental breakdown onstage, then goes to rehab and takes up with the lesbian daughter (Greta Gerwig) of one of his friends. Pacino plays the imbalanced lead perfectly, mixing humor into a part that seems like it could go in some pretty dark directions.

While it would be premature to say this will make you forget about his “love story” in Jack and Jill, this is at least a start.
