A human head was discovered in the yard of a home in Long Island, officials say.
Gothamist reports that a Hempstead Village resident made the grisly discovery just before 5 p.m. after noticing that birds had gathered around bushes in the front yard. Newsday reports that 51-year-old Jonathan Grier, who lives at the home, detected the foul odor and instantly suspected that something or someone had died. "Something is dead in these bushes and I'm not going to look for it," he reportedly told his sister.
Local police are investigating to see if there's a connection between the head and two severed arms that were found in a different Hempstead residential area last week. DNA tests confirm that the arms belong to 27-year-old Chinelle Latoya Browne of Brooklyn, who was last seen alive on Jul. 5.
