USMNT is moving on in the World Cup, and millions of people tuned in to watch their match against Germany on portable devices and computers. (While they were supposed to be working. Cough.)
While it looks like soccer is finally getting its due here in America, the World Cup may be one of the biggest cases of FOMO ever — we'll have to wait until the World Cup is over in order to see if the sport sticks in our national consciousness. Either way, people don't want to hear about the matches on Twitter or on ESPN alerts, they actually want to watch it happen in real time. At one point during USA's match today, 1.7 million people tuned in using the WatchESPN app or ESPN.com. TechCrunch points out that this is more than the 1.1 million concurrent viewers who watched the Super Bowl this year.
How did you watch the match today?
