There is no doubting Breaking Bad’s status as one of the great TV dramas of the last 20 years, but its spin-off, Better Call Saul, isn’t getting the benefit of the doubt from fans. Despite many of the same creators being involved, including Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan, many people aren’t sure that the show will be able to meet expectations.

Well, AMC isn’t worrying because the network announced today that Better Call Saul has already been picked up for a second season, increasing its episode count to 23. Unfortunately, the start of the series has been pushed back from 2014 to early 2015, with the second season debuting in early 2016.

The network also announced that Gilligan will direct the series premiere and act as co-showrunner of the show along with Peter Gould, who created the Saul character. You might have to wait a little longer, but all of the pieces seem to be in place for Better Call Saul to be a worthy successor to Breaking Bad.
