Wolfenstein: The New Order is out today, and while you may be happy enough slogging through knee-deep Nazi blood as B.J. Blazkowicz in an alternate history 1960s, some will long for simpler days. Luckily the developer know their audience pretty well. There is an Easter Egg (featured in the video above) that when B.J. lays down for a nap he dreams in the playable first level of the original Wolfenstein 3D.

B.J. may dream of “shootin', stabbin' and stranglin' Nazis” every night but you only get to play it once. So here's what to do. The level is may available about 2/3 through the game.

  • Save your game (this will allow you to play it over again)

  • Go to the top floor of the safe house. Enter the tool room.

  • Head towards the target on the left wall.

  • Beneath the poster for Wolf3D there is a mattress.

  • Dream a little dream of death.

The first level of Wolfenstein 3D has been recreated in The New Order game engine but the art is spot on. If you, like me, have spent large portions of your teens blasting Nazis in Wolf3D it's a hell of a throwback. Checkout the launch trailer below for Wolfenstein: The New Order which is out now for Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4 and PC.
