By now, most fans have come to accept the fact that Edgar Wright will no longer be directing Marvel’s Ant-Man, but that doesn’t mean we don’t want answers. Thankfully, The Hollywood Reporter got to the bottom of just what went on here, and apparently there is some real behind-the-scenes turmoil at Marvel involving this project. Here is what the site is reporting:

None

Also, according to a source close to the production, "Kevin Feige [and his top lieutenants] run Marvel with a singularity of vision, but when you take a true auteur and throw him into the mix, this is what you get.” The source continued, "They don't want you to speak up too much or have too much vision. People who have never worked there don't understand how they operate, but if you trust them, they have an amazing track record."

Basically, Edgar Wright left the project because his vision was too different from the typical Marvel tone. It might not make sense to some fans, but the company’s bottom line is king, and so far the studio has done well for itself with its existing formula.

Still, this pretty much confirms that it’s unlikely we’ll ever see a Marvel movie directed by an artist with a groundbreaking vision. Thankfully Joss Whedon and the Russo Brothers have done well working within these confines. Are you happy with the studio’s formula, or would you rather see someone come along and shake things up?
