A California jury has found that Samsung infringed on two Apple patents and has ordered the South Korean giant to pay $119,625,000 in damages. It also found that Apple breached one Samsung patent, for which it must pay $158,400.
After deliberations spanning three full days, the jury concluded that Samsung infringed on two of five Apple patents, which cover the slide-to-unlock mechanism and a feature that renders addresses and phone numbers as links. The Samsung patent violated by Apple relates to a feature of the photo and video gallery.
"We are grateful to the jury and the court for their service. Today's ruling reinforces what courts around the world have already found: that Samsung willfully stole our ideas and copied our products," Apple said in a statement. "We are fighting to defend the hard work that goes into beloved products like the iPhone, which our employees devote their lives to designing and delivering for our customers."
Samsung declined to comment on the decision, which is still significantly smaller than the original $2.1 billion requested by Apple.
