For all the talk of diversity and reaching other cultures, much of video games arguably remain painfully sheltered. Never Alone looks like a breath of fresh air – the game is being made by a developer Upper One Games, an Alaskan native american studio (the first ever), and it focuses on the cultural and storytelling heritage of natives of the region.

The game follows a young Inupiat girl accompanied by her snow fox friend – from the look of it, you'll have to work together in order to solve puzzles and move forward, but the more important part of the experience may be the art direction and storytelling, which is based on the folklore of Alaska's indigenous people. The more kinds of cultural diversity possible in the game space, the better off we'll all be. Never Alone will be out for PS4, Xbox One and PC this Fall, and we can't wait to play it.
