This is ridiculous: for his segment "Lie Witness News," late night television's resident prankster, Jimmy Kimmel, was unbelievably able to convince some people—just some!—that Godzilla is based on a true story. Seriously.

"We went on Hollywood Boulevard this afternoon and insinuated that Godzilla is based on an actual event...I will admit, not too many people bit on this one, but some of them did," Kimmel explained in a new clip from Jimmy Kimmel Live! when introducing the segment. As for how his team possibly went about doing this, he explained: "We asked, 'Considering Godzilla is based on the true story of the giant lizard attack on Tokyo that killed more than 100,000 people in 1954, do you think it's wrong that Hollywood glamorized this for entertainment?'"

This clip will probably make you lose faith in America. Watch it above.
