Microsoft Revealed a Demo of Its New Windows in the Car Project

Microsoft has unveiled the concept of its Windows in the car software project.

At its Build developer conference last week, Microsoft revealed details about its Metro-based Windows in the car project, ostensibly an Apple CarPlay rival.

The idea is to create an interface and mechanism that allows users to extend their Windows phones to touch displays within the car. It's currently being tested using Mirrorlink technology, which can be used by Nokia Symbian handsets and Sony Xperia devices. As per the Verge, a demo of Windows in the car at the conference featured what resembled a scaled down version of Windows 8, down to the tiles and swipe-based interface.

Windows in the car has neither a release date nor concrete plans to ship, but offers a glimpse into Microsoft's approach to the vehicular software game.
