It’s not enough for movie studios to put every spandex-clad superhero on the screen anymore, now they’re resorting to giving villains the spotlight as well. According to Deadline, director Drew Goddard (Cabin in the Woods) is nearing a deal with Sony to helm a big screen version of The Sinister Six.

In the comics, The Sinister Six is a group of super villains that unites to defeat Spider-Man. The roster of the team has changed over the years to include the likes of Doctor Octopus, Vulture, Electro, Mysterio, Venom, Hobgoblin, Kraven, and many others. The idea is for the movie to spin off from the main Amazing Spider-Man film franchise, most likely after the third installment is released in 2016.

There is no word on the plot or the roster of the film, but with a Venom movie also said to be in production, it will be interesting to see whether or not there will be any crossover there. Either way, Goddard has proven himself capable of producing quality work, so there is actually something to be excited about here.
