Despite Florida's general ridiculousness (and perhaps because of it), Spring Breakers are expected to flock to the state in droves this year.
According to USA Today, Florida's number of Spring Break visitors increased 36 percent from 19.4 million in 2000 to a record 26.3 million last year. What's more, state officials expect this year's crowd to crush that number.
"This is going to be a very good year for spring break because of the weather that the Northeast has experienced for several months. There's pent-up demand, and it's the opportunity to go south and have a good time," Visit Florida chief marketing officer Paul Phipps explained.
Blame (or thank) the uniquely ugly winter for this eagerness. Take folks from Atlanta who are still reeling from January's snow nightmare—a Georgia exodus is long overdue. So don't credit Harmony Korine, James Franco as Riff Raff or a reinvigorated interest in Britney Spears' "Everytime"—credit the winter and restless youth, per the usual.
